Scout Sunday 2010

A Scout is reverent

The Boy Scouts of America designates the Sunday that falls before February 8 (Scouting Anniversary Day) as Scout Sunday, which is the primary date to recognize the contributions of young people and adults to Scouting. However, each chartered organization can use either of two other options to celebrate this special day.

cub scout committee notes 2/2/2010

First --A BIG THANK YOU to you parents who came out to the February's cub scout committee meeting. WHAT a difference you made!! Thank you! And for those of you who didn't show... .well there next month..

Now on to the agenda items:

Saturday, Feb 6 -- scouting for food. This is our year non perishable food drive. The cub scouts will be handing out flyers throughout neighborhoods. The neighborhoods are Bushmans, Jones, Flowers/Reyes, Turners and Cortez -- Members of the Sage Ward. So from the church building North to Bridge. But we are not doing the gated neighborhood.

The cub scouts & leaders need to be at the church at 10am in uniform. Parents if you want to help drive or walk, that would be helpful too. This will take until 1pm or so. The more cub scouts and leaders/parents we have the faster it will get done.

There will be NO foyer boxes this year... Just didn't have the extra time to get them done, early.. sorry

Oh the Boy Scouts will be picking up the food on Saturday, Feb 13

Sunday, Feb 7-- Scout Sunday -- Each boy has been asked to wear his FULL uniform to church on Sunday. Grandfathers and Dad join in too. NO Class B's or day camp shirts.

Tuesday, Feb 23--- Blue & Gold Banquet --- 100 years of scouting!

Sister Flowers handed out food assignments. Ask your cub scout for the paper from his shoe. The food assignments are simple and easy. If you cannot met your food assignment, please get with Sister Flowers or Me to discuss this matter.

Brother Bushman & Brother Flowers will be cooking the dogs and burgers for the night.

Kyra Baca has & is working on the 100 years of scouting time line for part of decorations. As the day comes nearer, I will need help setting up tables and what not. Let me know if you are available to help.

Sister Emms & the Bear Den will be working on the invitations for the dinner. We are inviting the Bishoprics of each ward and the 7 year old boys from each ward. This night will be a preview to scouting for them.

As for activities for the night, there will be door prizes (b-day gifts for each boy.. What's a b-day party without gifts, right?) There will be a small pinewood derby race in the overflow, only opened to the 7 year old boys. Brother Bushman will give a presentation on FOS or Friends of Scouting. This will help in the cost of day camp. Day Camp is $65 for each boy. With the FOS presentation the cost would be $52 for each boy. There will be a skit on the founders of scouting... should be FUN and a presentation on "why scouting is important?" The Sage Ward Primary is also doing 2 pinatas for the night too.

With all of that, Blue and Gold will be a BLAST!!

Saturday, Feb 27 - Our 1st service project of the year!! YAY!! We are going to help out the Blue Star Mothers of Rio Rancho. We did this in December. Everyone who went had a great time. They also got "MR GOOD BARS" at pack meeting for their service.

We will meet at the church at 11am. We have to be up in Rio Rancho, behind Intel at 12noon. The boys need to be in uniform, too.

More details will be coming....

Cub Scout Committe Notes:

Friends...

I hope you are all well. We had a good meeting last night with three of us with myself. With so few, decisions were very quick and precise. Read through these minutes carefully!

1. Blue and Gold Banquet. It was decided that Laurel Flowers and Jimmy will be allowed the blessings of organizing and creating the activity. It will take place on Tuesday evening, 23 Feb 2010. The theme is "Happy Birthday, BSA." Laurel and Jimmy can call on any committee member for help.

2. Carlos Lopez's Arrow of Light award ceremony has been planned for 29 Sep 2009 (Tue, Sep pack mtg).

3. The Fall Roundup may be complete with the new cubs we have incorporated into the pack. Chris Bushman will be checking on the rules. If we have met the goal, we will receive free pinewood derby kits.

4. A field trip is planned for October and a service project for Nov or Dec so stay tuned for what they will be and when. Parents will be asked to help out on both of these projects to work with the boys. All dens will need help so stand ready to step forward and volunteer. Please let Chris Bushman know of your willingness to serve.

5. Several suggestions for new leaders were made and approved for consideration by the bishopric. Interestingly, there was no opposition to any of the names from those present!

6. The themes for the rest of the year are: Sep (Cub Scout pockets); Oct Jungle Safari; Nov (Cub Scout salute); and Dec (Works of art).

It was a quick and efficient meeting. Thanks to you all.

Just a side Note :
We have meet and exceeded the District's goal for more registered cub scouts! We get FREE pinewood derbies this year! YAY us!

Sister Flowers slipped and fell, came up with a banged up hand and a jammed finger. Someone else needed 1st aid too. -- don't remember off hand who it was.
Sorry!
